Montclair State University serves 21,000 students in the State of New Jersey, delivering the instructional and research resources of a large public university in a supportive, sophisticated, and diverse academic environment. dD+P worked with the University to develop concept plans to enhance campus life by providing a pedestrian connection between Montclair’s Student Center Annex and Student Center Quad.

Through creating this connection, this project aims to establish a distinct sense of arrival, enhance the pedestrian experience by creating an accessible means to cross the campus, integrate with and connect to surrounding campus buildings and landscape, and create a more vibrant and active public space for Montclair students and faculty.

These principles inform the design of the two distinct approaches that were developed as a result of the study – a “threaded” connection and a “landscaped” connection.
