The Wave, Rockaway’s Newspaper, features an article on the groundbreaking of the new P.S. 256Q. Designed to replace the original building (damaged by Superstorm Sandy), the new P.S. 256Q will have a student body of 216 children (Pre-K-5th grade), the majority of whom have Autism Spectrum Disorder. The new school not only replaces the ruined building but is designed with careful consideration of these students’ special needs. Construction is expected to be completed in September 2020. In attendance were local government, Belle Harbor, School Construction Authority, and design team representatives.
