dD+P provided integrated architecture and landscape design services for the relocation and complete redesign of the Gun Hill Road Station located on the White Plains Road Line in the Bronx. As part of this project, the public plaza and bus transfer area located immediately outside of the station were architecturally integrated into the larger station modernization effort to create a major intermodal transit hub for this re-emerging Bronx community.

The design of the station is focused around a new station house and public entry area. The glazed entry area functions as a translucent entry zone, visually opening up the station building and platform transfer areas to the open air public space of the station’s plaza. The design of the plaza seeks to create a transit forecourt using new canopied bus boarding zones and a landscaped seating area to visually connect exterior planes of user movement to the station’s interior circulation patterns.
