January 25, 2023, marked the first time Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) trains arrived at Grand Central Terminal through the opening of Grand Central Madison. dD+P is thankful to have played a part in our designs for the Passenger Experience Enhancements which brings digital advertising, wayfinding, graphics, color programmable lighting, enhancement of station artwork through lighting, and other final station improvements. These enhancements helped bring this long-awaited 750,000-square-foot extension of Grand Central up to 21st-century station design as well as meet current passenger and Metropolitan Transportation Authority needs.

Grand Central Madison is the largest new train terminal to be built in the United States since the 1950s and the first expansion of the LIRR in more than 100 years. This is a game changer for LIRR customers as travel times will be reduced to and from Manhattan’s East Side and transfers can now be made to Metro-North lines.
