Samara Community School (PS 320X) has earned two major honors for its commitment to sustainability and efficiency: certification as a NYC Green School and an American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) New York Diamond Award for Building/Technology Systems.

Developed as part of a broader effort to revitalize the South Bronx, an area long impacted by disinvestment, PS 320X reflects how thoughtful design can create healthier, more resilient spaces for students, families, and the surrounding community.

Designed by dD+P, the five-story, 61,672 SF school serves 458 Pre-K through fifth-grade students and includes a library, gymnasium, cafeteria, rooftop play area, and classrooms. Abundant natural daylight, low‑VOC materials, water‑saving plumbing, and energy‑optimized systems support student well-being and reduce environmental impact.

Delivered in collaboration with the New York City School Construction Authority (NYC SCA) and engineering firm IMEG, PS 320X strengthens the Bronx’s West Farms neighborhood by providing a high‑performance learning environment that supports educational success and community sustainability.
