Last week, dD+P joined the New York City School Construction Authority to celebrate the grand opening of PS 256Q’s new schoolyard in Far Rockaway, Queens!

Designed in response to damage caused by Superstorm Sandy, the school adheres to FEMA flood standards, offering three floors of space for students and staff and a new outdoor play area. The school serves a large population of students on the autism spectrum and supports sensory and cognitive needs while fostering a sense of safety and belonging. The play area includes planters for gardening and interactive installations such as percussive instruments, a flute, an xylophone, and tic-tac-toe.
