Perth Amboy is the eighth station south of Newark on the North Jersey Coast line. The station building was constructed in 1928 and is on the state and national registers of historic places. New Jersey Transit determined that the Perth Amboy station building, platforms, and environs should be ADA-compliant. A program of required remediation was developed and the dD+P/Stantec team addressed the required remediation during the design process. The overall project strategy was to provide station accessibility and high-level platforms, with a design that is acceptable to the SHPO. A series of conceptual designs for both side and center island high-level platforms were developed, and all schemes involve elevator access. At the platform level, the design of the canopies and elevator enclosures keep in line with the architectural language of the existing historic building.
