Last week was the Grand Opening and Press Event of the new ADA-accessible MTA entrance at Queensboro Plaza Station (7/N/W), led by MTA Construction & Development President Jamie Torres-Springer, Senior Vice President Lauren Cahill of Grubb Properties, as well as local and state representatives.
The event celebrated the first completed Zoning for Accessibility (ZFA) Bonus Improvement Project in New York City.
dD+P is at the forefront of ZFA work. ZFA projects are collaborative partnerships between private developers and the MTA to implement much-needed accessibility and station improvements throughout key areas of New York City. This ZFA project is not only the first open to the public, but the second approved by the City Planning Commission. As noted by the speakers, the project team was able to deliver the project under budget and ahead of schedule.
dD+P’s role involved the design of a new station entrance integrated into a new 26-story mixed-use development at Queensboro Plaza, including an oversized 5,000-pound capacity elevator, a 10-foot-wide staircase, a new transition to the existing pedestrian bridge, and temporary stairs to maintain access to the station while the existing building was demolished.
